Wendy Carrillo is a multi media broadcast journalist with a passion for story-telling. Every Sunday morning at 6am, you can hear Wendy on Los Angeles radio station Power 106 (105.9fm) discussing issues that matter most to the community. From politics to education to pop culture, Wendy opens up the phone lines to listeners and hosts an open conversation with leading experts.
During the historic presidential election of 2008, Wendy won a national competition to represent young Latinos by receiving more than 7,000 online votes to report from the Democratic National Convention for SiTV and Voto Latino. She has received media training from the New Organizing Institute and CNN headquarters in Atlanta. In 2009, Wendy won the coveted San Francisco based Elfen Award for Social Justice in Poverty for a short film on Homeboy Industries as an organization with solutions to end gang violence and inspire hope. Adding her viewpoints to the online community, Wendy’s blog was recognized by Hispanic Business as a leading voice influencing culture and politics. In 2010, Wendy was recognized as “Woman of the Year” by California State Senator Gloria Romero.
Wendy emigrated from El Salvador as a child and grew up in the community of East Los Angeles. She is a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, East Los Angeles College, and went on to receive a B.A. in Rhetorical Communication & Chicano Studies from Cal State Los Angeles. She recently completed a Masters in Specialized Journalism from the University of Southern California and was the keynote student speaker at the Chicano/Latino Graduation Ceremony.
