Traditional Swag

I remember when Nancy Pelosi visited the Middle East, she was rocking the headgear.

When President George Bush went to Chile, he too, just like Ugly Betty, brought the Poncho back.

When Barack Obama went to Kenya, he put on some swag.

It doesn’t make him a Muslim, just like it doesn’t make Pelosi a Muslim woman with no rights, or George Bush a Chilean peasant.

The Hillary camp says they did not leak the photo to the Drudge Report. Hillary says, “But let’s just stop and ask yourself: ‘Why are you — why is anybody concerned about this?”

David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign manager said, “”On the very day that Senator Clinton is giving a speech about restoring respect for America in the world, her campaign has engaged in the most shameful, offensive fear-mongering we’ve seen from either party in this election. This is part of a disturbing pattern that led her county chairs to resign in Iowa, her campaign chairman to resign in New Hampshire, and it’s exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world”

Then Maggie Williams, Hillary’s campaign manager said “”Enough, if Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed.”

That word “shame” has been getting a lot of attention lately. Just a few days ago Hillary said with a pointed finger, “Shame on you Barack!” for some mailings that went out and told him to meet her in the playground…err… I mean, at the debate. Time for him to own up to his words! Or something like that.

Talk about Rhetorical mumbo jumbo! Yes, I went to college and studied campaign communication and the best that I can come up with is “mumbo jumbo”.
Let’s rewind. I’m going to bring back the “H” word.
Can I have some Hegemony with a side of Totalitarian? What’s that? Do I want it Super Sized? Isn’t it already?!

The United States has for a long time, held supreme power over countries. After 9/11, everyone loved us, pitied us, and wanted to help us. After we invaded Iraq, well, we are not liked as much.
There are countries in the world far better at things than us. Like, Colombia! They make great coffee… Mexico – great tequila!… Europe – crazy fanatic soccer fans! Not to mention they also have The Spice Girls. (love them!)

What do we have? We have dignitaries who often times, just like Hillary herself have had to visit another country and put on some swag. I think it’s the hosting countries way of letting us know that no matter what, they can put outfits on us that might make us look silly and often times the center of smear campaigns.

As if we all believed that you are what you wear. Psssht! That is SOOOO 1987.

But we cant do the same can we? We don’t have swag, if anything we have Calvin Klein and Armani suits. Unless you count a Native American headdress or Pilgrim gear as swag, the good ol’ U.S of A does not have style.
So this whole fear thing about Obama in Muslim gear, well, lets get over it. He is not a terrorist just like to the dismay of many fashionistas, you really are NOT too sexy for that shirt!

I’m dropping this like 3rd period French!
